POWER OUTAGES

In the event of a power outage, please check the DB Board in the kitchen. This board is situated on the right-hand side inside the kitchen area next to the Nespresso machine. If this is in order, phone Elephant Point Management / Security to find out if there is an Eskom power outage. The lodge is on a power backup generator. Please use the CONSOL solar jars and candles in case the generator fails. The CONSOL solar jars can be found on the deck next to the pool.

DRINKING WATER

The tap water at Elephant Point is 100% safe to drink. We have our water quality tested once a month at a lab. These tests are available for you to view should you need. Bottled drinking water is also available from the office to purchase.

FIRST AID

It is advisable to bring along a basic First Aid Kit. You are in the bush and a First Aid Kit is sometimes needed for scratches, cuts, bruises, burns and insect bites. It is also a good idea to take this kit with you when you go on game drives. The Manager is a qualified paramedic with many years’ experience in trauma and should be contacted in case of emergency - 082 688 1431 A comprehensive medical bag is available at the office for minor medical emergencies.

ANIMALS
  • We are very fortunate not to have any monkey or baboon troubles at Elephant Point. With your help, we can keep it that way. Never feed the monkeys, baboons or any animals on the property. By feeding the animals you are essentially signing their death warrant, as they become problematic and aggressive. Ultimately, they need to be put down to avoid harm. Please don’t feed the animals!!!
  • We have Zebra and Impala grazing around the lodges. These are not tame but are used to people. Please don’t try to get close or chase them. The Zebras names are Sabie and Poppie.
SECURITY
  • Please don’t assume that because you are in the bush, incidents cannot happen. • Please look after your valuables and do not leave them in plain sight. Pack your valuables away in a cupboard or lock them in the safe. It is your responsibility to do so. • Close the front door when you are all sitting in the Boma area or enjoying the pool. This is to stop unwanted animals entering while you are unaware. The same goes for all doors leading outside. • Elephant Point has armed patrol guards 24/7 Safety Deposit Box (Safe) The safe can be found in the store room next to the guest toilet.
  • To lock the safe: • Insert your valuables and close the door. • Enter a 5 digit code you wish to have as your user code. • Confirm this code by pressing the # button. • You will hear a beep and the safe will now be locked. To open the safe: • Input your code. • Press the # button again. • The display will show “OPEN”. • You can open the safe. Please ensure that you leave the door of the safe OPEN after your stay, so that the next guest can input their user code.

GAME DRIVES

Elephant Point can arrange a game drive with a very reputable and professional operator. Well trained guides are at the beck and call of each client and are always prepared to go beyond the call of duty. They will share with you their vast knowledge of the bush as well as historical and indigenous experiences of the local communities. Extensive use is made of local guides, who originate from the area and are thus knowledgeable as to the best places to visit, and who draw on their depth of rich cultural experiences. William Hlatshwayo was born and grew up just outside the Kruger National Park. He has over 30 years of work experience in the tourism and game ranging industry. His passion for nature and understanding of his client’s requirements led him to become South Africa’s first qualified black guide (ranger) and he was later honored by becoming the personal guide (ranger) to former South African President, Nelson Mandela. In addition to his extensive knowledge of the bush, William has also managed numerous upmarket lodges in the area.

SWIMMING POOL

Please use the pool cover if you have small children. Be aware that you use the pool area at your own risk. It is a shallow pool. No diving is allowed. Please do not use the bathroom towels outside. Swimming towels are provided. To remove the cover and open the umbrella, you will use the long stick that can be found in the storeroom. On your departure please fold down the umbrella and cover it again.

BRAAI AND BOMA AREA

There is a large fire pit and braai grid in the boma area. If needed, there is also a Weber in the boma. Never leave the boma area unattended when there is a fire going. Please ensure that all fires are put out after use as fires are a big problem in the bush. The wind is strong at night and the risk of an uncontrollable fire increases. Fires must not be left unattended at any time. In case of a veld fire or other fire related calamity, there are fire hoses, nozzles and hydrant keys located in the signage box on the top of the paving next to the road. These are for emergencies only and should never be tampered with. Phone Elephant Point Management / Security immediately in case of emergency. Chairs for the braai area are in the storage space below the deck. Please feel free to use these and return them on your departure. Please don’t leave the chairs in the sun if they are not being used. The sun can be very destructive and leaving the chairs in the hot sun shortens their life quite dramatically. Ask management should you need assistance in this regard. Thank you for your co-operation.
